Aloha Rowena Mahalo Nui Loa - You had no idea how much you shaped my life. It was 25 years ago when you sent an old copy of the Waimea Gazette to an unknown Haole just to help. It contained an article about a lady looking for information about her mainland Lincoln Family. That article contained two letters that validated the link between her family and Lorenzo Lincoln. This article opened a huge door for me. It changed a hobby into a purpose and resulted in me writing two books about the Lincoln Ohana. It gave me a sense of belonging and became a joy that still motivates me to this day. I miss my trips to Hawaii, I miss my visits with the Ohana and I will miss you. You are gone much too soon. Me ke aloha pumehana - Al
WITHOUT Rowena Lincoln there would not have been a Hawaiian Database or book.
Research has produced changes in the two databases that support the site and they continue to grow. However, that research has been on families "associated" with the Lincolns and has not resulted in an impact to the website. At the present time the Mainland Database contains about 5500 entries and the Hawaiian Database about 7200. (An entry is defined as - acknowledgement of the existence of a person who may not be known by their name; as in Mrs. John Smith; or John Smith and wife; or a Hawaiian of older generations who were often known by a single name).
Things are slowing down (I am approaching 86) and 2024 has been a particularly exasperating year at best, and has involved multiple negative family health issues. I view them as a warning to get "organized".
As a result, I am putting together a process that is intended to make the two databases "open" to a much larger audience. Our editor, Suzanne DeVries, will be a central part of the process - More later...
